Soulager Therapy is a person-centered liberatory approach to therapy

Soulager (p. soo-lah-zhay) is the french word for the alleviation of pain. Soulager therapy makes the distinction between pain and suffering as:

  1. Pain comes from the unavoidable entanglements inherent in the human experience

  2. Suffering originates in the sticking points that happen between humans and their relationship with their environment. The environment includes relationship issues between people, challenges overcoming behaviors, rumination and avoidance and many other challenges that people struggle to overcome.

The purpose of therapy is to assist each person to find the changeable parts of their lives so that long-term and effective change can be created. Only by exploring change can suffering be decreased.
